Google Vids: A New-Age Video Creator for Corporate Presentations

Google at it’s Cloud Next conference today announced a new video making app – Google Vids, that can craft engaging videos with text inputs, images, documents and other short video clips.

Positioned as a video ‘storyteller‘, Google Vids uses Gemini AI to craft videos, and is a part of the Google Workspace suite. This will be rolling out to Workspace Labs users in June, and later to everyone, gradually.

Google Vids for Quick Videos

As playing with documents, spreadsheets and slides daily can be a gruesome task, Google is bringing a new form of data presentation – through videos! Materializing this idea is a new tool called Google Vids, which takes text inputs, image and video inputs to make a storytelling video, using Gemini AI.

Unveiling this tool at the Cloud Next conference, Google trailed Vids with the inputs of the event – like submitting the documentation and images, and asked the tool to create a video. And the result – it made a recap of everything Google speakers explained at the event, including the script and a voiceover.

While creating a video, Google Vids asked a user to select an appropriate template to get the relevant output. You can choose between research proposal, new employee intro, team milestone, quarterly business update, and others.

Google Vids is not a competitor of OpenAI’s Sora or Runway’s Gen-2, as these tools create videos from scratch with text prompts. Google Vids is aimed at helping people to present their stuff in a better way, apart from regular documents and slides.

Thus, it’s part of the Google Workspace, where you can collaborate in real time similar to Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. While it’s intended to aid HRs in corporates, like creating onboarding videos for new employees, showcasing company milestones, or training materials for teams, Google Vids can also be used for personal purposes like creating birthday parties or vacation videos.
