OmniVision OV64B 64MP image sensor unveiled, World’s first 0.7 Micron

OmniVision Technologies, the popular brand in the filed of advanced digital imaging solutions has introduced their OV64B, the industry’s first and only 64MP image sensor along with 0.7 micron pixel size.

The OmniVision OV64B imaging sensor is based on OmniVision’s PureCel Plus stacked die technology. It is great for main, wide , ultra-wide or telephoto rear-facing camera in a multi-camera configurations.

Apart from the 0.7 micron pixel size, it gives the user a 64MP resolution in 1/2-inch optical format for the first time, allowing smartphone designers to create the thinnest possible smartphone with high resolution 64MP camera.

The OmniVision OV64B features a 3-exposure, staggered HDR timing for up to 16MP video modes. It also comes packed with a 4-cell color filter array and on-chip hardware re-mosaic for high quality 64MP Bayer output all done in real time.

In dark environments, it utilizes near-pixel binning to output a 16MP image along with 4X sensitivity offering 1.4 micron equivalent performance. It also features a 2X digital crop zoom along with 16MP resolution and a fast mode switch.

The OV64B features type-2, 2×2 microlens phase detection auto focus (ML-PDAF) to boost auto focus accuracy, especially in low light conditions. It features a CPHY interface for greater throughput utilizing fewer pins. The imaging sensor allows for slow motion video s to be taken at 1080p at 240fps and 720p at 480fps.

Other outputs are notably 64MP at 15fps, 8K video at 30fps, 16MP captures 4-cell binning at 30fps, 4K video at 60fps and 4K video with EIS at 30fps.
