Spotify Premium with Free Audiobook Access is Coming to Canada

Spotify May Bring HiFi Audio Support in a New Platinum Tier

Spotify Premium users in Canada, Ireland and New Zealand will now have free 15-hour access to audiobooks on the platform – enough to cover a handful of them.

People exhausting this free quote can top-up on a 10-hour plan, for $11. Though it seems pricier compared to the regular premium plan, it may be worth it against Audible – the market leader in this industry.

A Free 15-Hour Listening Quota

Observing that the audio streaming market is stagnant, Spotify is rapidly expanding in the audiobook segment – with the latest efforts aimed at luring more people to check it’s library.

Last year, the company introduced a free 15-hour access to it’s audiobook catalogue in the US, UK and Australia, which allow it’s premium users try the new experience without any extra cost and since it turned out to be a successful campaign, Spotify is now offering the same in Canada, Ireland and New Zealand, being available from next week.

The platform has also increased the list of available titles from 200,000 to 250,000 in the last four months. So it’s a good bet if you want to invest your time in audiobooks, that’s ever-expanding. If users exhaust their free 15-hour quota, they can top-up on 10-hour plans costing CAD 14.99, IRE €12.99 or NZD 19.99.

The pricing is aggressively set to compete with Audible, which offers one monthly audiobook credit for $15. Well, unlike Audible, you can’t carry forward your unused audiobook listening time to the next month on Spotify. So it’s interesting to see how Spotify’s audiobooks grow against Audible, the current market leader.
