Truecaller Can Soon Block Spam Calls Over WhatsApp

With telemarketers shifting to make social media calls for leads, Truecaller said it’s bringing its caller identification service to apps like WhatsApp soon, in India.

This move is in partnership with local telecom companies and aims at blocking spam calls against users. India is a major market for Truecaller, with over 250 million monthly active users.

Truecaller Integration With WhatsApp

Truecaller, a reliable caller tool service is expanding its service to include instant messenger apps – such as WhatsApp, Telegram, and others, after the rise of spam calls by telemarketers as a new means to reach users but ends up being disturbing.

In India, spam calls have been on a sharp rise in recent years – with Indians receiving an average of 17 spam calls every month, as per a report from Truecaller. This led the Indian telecom regulatory to order the local telecoms to follow new measures – aimed at blocking spam calls.

And companies like Jio and Airtel have partnered with Truecaller – using AI for spotting and blocking spam calls made over the internet. Months after this, Truecaller is now ready with its caller identification service to be applicable on apps like WhatsApp and other instant messengers.

In a statement given to Reuters, Truecaller CEO Alan Mamedi said the feature is currently in the beta phase and will be rolled out globally later this month. Though WhatsApp is using its native technology to spot and act on suspicious accounts, this wasn’t enough for today’s trend in India.

And since Truecaller is India’s biggest market with over 250 million monthly active users, WhatsApp and Truecaller shaking hands is indeed needful.
