WhatsApp, on its latest iOS beta app, is testing the ability to let users create and edit stickers and make their chats more interesting.

Accessible from the chat keyboard, the option will remove the background of an image to highlight the subject and use it as a sticker. Users can further edit it as desired in a drawing panel and send the output in a chat.

For a long time, WhatsApp users had to rely on third-party apps to create stickers for the platform. This is a hassle, as finding the right sticker from outside apps or making one for yourself and pushing it onto WhatsApp is time-consuming and often infeasible.

Thus, the platform is testing a native sticker creation feature on the latest iOS beta, v24.1.10.72, as spotted by WaBetaInfo. The outlet shared screenshots to unveil how this works, where an option to create stickers is available on the chat keyboard itself. Users can also access this option from the sticker keyboard and start making one.

When enabled, the feature asks you to select an image from your device and removes the background to highlight the subject. This can be further customized in a drawing editor and have the final result pushed in your chat. Users can also favourite their stickers to quickly access them later on, and edit the existing stickers.

While this move is welcoming, we hoped Meta would let users create stickers with generative AI, which is more convenient and creative. As we wait for it, this sticker creation feature is currently in a limited testing phase and interested users should join the iOS TestFlight channel to experience it.
