WhatsApp to Add Email Verification For Additional Security

Mark Zuckerberg and WhatsApp Announced Communities Feature

WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new way of logging into your account – email verification, that will help you access the account in case your phone is lost.

WhatsApp has already been using email addresses to reset the PIN(for login) if forgotten and thinks the same could be used for account setup too. This feature has been in testing on the latest WhatsApp beta build for select users.

Email Login in WhatsApp

With nearly three billion users worldwide, WhatsApp is undoubtedly the largest-ever instant messenger today. This makes it a hot target for hackers to exploit it whenever they can, steal sensitive conversations and even impersonate it. Understanding the sensitivity of such issues, WhatsApp constantly adds security tools to keep the platform secure.

We’ve seen 2FA logins, Google Drive encryption and other device verification methods to keep the platform safe. Now, the messenger app is working on adding email verification, too, as spotted on the WhatsApp beta v2.23.16.15 build.

This is a handy feature in case you lose your phone. You can sign in to WhatsApp on a new device through email verification and access your account. This feature is said to be optional, so it’s up to you to decide on beefing up the account security.

If you’re interested, connect your email address to the login methods on WhatsApp before misplacing it elsewhere. Well, if you have the PIN login enabled, your email address is already on WhatsApp. So all you need to link it for is the account verification.

Besides being an additional step of security, email verification could also be the only hope if you’re not able to receive OTPs to your phone number – while logging into a new device. Well, this support has still been in beta testing for select users. So we have to wait and see when WhatsApp brings it to light.
