Whatsapp to Allow Users to Pin Messages Soon

WhatsApp

WhatsApp, the popular messaging app owned by Meta, is in the process of developing an intriguing new feature. This upcoming addition will enable users to pin individual messages, simplifying the process of finding important conversations.

In a recent beta update for Android, rolled out by the Meta-owned instant messaging app, the option to pin messages has been introduced. All pinned messages will be prominently displayed at the top of the chat screen, providing convenient access to essential discussions.

This new feature, which is currently in the testing phase under the Android Beta update version 2.23.21.4, has been made available to a select group of users. It is anticipated that this feature will soon be made accessible to a broader audience. Notably, the app currently offers a “starred message” feature, somewhat akin to pinned messages. However, it necessitates a few additional steps to locate a starred message.

Currently, users cannot move an entire chat to the top, as the option merely allows for the starring of specific important messages within a chat. Consequently, users must first locate the chat and then search within it to find starred messages. The introduction of pinned messages will simplify the process of saving and finding important messages by pinning chats to the top of the chat list.

As per information provided by WABetaInfo, a WhatsApp update tracker, this new feature can be accessed through a long press on the chat that users wish to pin at the top of their chat list. A context menu will appear upon long pressing a chat, presenting the “Pin chat” option. Users can conveniently pin the chat to the top of the list by selecting this option.

Nonetheless, it is important to note that the pin chat feature currently comes with certain limitations. Chats can only be pinned for a limited duration, with users having the choice of 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. After 30 days, the pinned chats will automatically be unpinned. Users also have the option to manually unpin chats by long pressing the chat and selecting “unpin” from the context menu.

While this feature is still in the development stage, WhatsApp has yet to provide an official confirmation regarding it’s release to the general public. Stay tuned for further updates, as we will keep you informed about when this feature is expected to be made available in the coming months.
