Xiaomi Unveils Mix Fold 3 with Quad Camera Setup

Xiaomi Mix Fold 3

Folding smartphones are gaining global attention and with the introduction of Xiaomi’s Mix Fold 3, this form factor is here to stay. We have witnessed numerous folding smartphones from different manufacturers, each bringing it’s uniqueness to this design. This year, Google launched it’s first folding smartphone, the Google Pixel Fold. Samsung and Honor also launched their next generation of folding devices. Now it is Xiaomi’s turn to provide an annual upgrade to it’s folding device.

The Mix Fold 3 marks Xiaomi’s third generation of folding devices, succeeding last year’s Mix Fold 2. As anticipated, this new folding device brings substantial upgrades in terms of specifications and durability. Let’s delve into the comprehensive specifications of this device below.

Specifications of Xiaomi Mix Fold 3:

The Mix Fold 3 retains the book-like design of it’s predecessor, with slight improvements in it’s thickness and weight. While last year’s Mix Fold 2 held the title of the slimmest folding device, this year that distinction was claimed by the Honor Magic V2. Although not as slender as the Honor Magic V2, the Mix Fold 3 is still slimmer compared to it’s predecessor. The device measures a mere 5.26 mm in thickness when unfolded and 10.86 mm when folded, weighing only 258 grams.

The hinge is a critical component of a folding device and the Mix Fold 3 boasts an enhanced hinge design that contributes to it’s durability. This iteration features a free-hovering hinge constructed from ultra-resistant carbon steel. Xiaomi asserts that this hinge can endure up to 500,000 folds, surpassing Honor’s promise of 400,000 folds for the Magic V2 and surpassing Samsung and Google’s foldable devices by 200,000 folds respectively. Naturally, real-world usage may differ from lab testing. Additionally, both the front and rear sides of the smartphone are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Turning to the specifications, the device features a 6.56-inch Full HD+ AMOLED cover display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Upon unfolding, an 8.03-inch E6 Eco2 AMOLED LTPO Ultra-Thin Glass 2K foldable panel will greet users, boasting a 120Hz fast refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2600 nits. The inner display incorporates a layer of ultra-thin glass and holds TUV Rheinland certification.

Under the hood, the Mix Fold 3 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset paired with the Adreno 740 GPU. It offers up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. Out of the box, it runs on MIUI 14, which runs on top of Android 13.

In terms of optics, the device boasts a Leica-branded quad rear camera setup led by a 50MP IMX800 primary sensor featuring optical image stabilization. This primary sensor is accompanied by a 10MP telephoto lens, a 13MP ultra-wide lens and a 10MP periscope lens with 5x optical zoom. For selfies, a 20MP shooter is positioned within a center punch-hole cut out on both the cover and the inner display.

The device is equipped with a 4800mAh battery cell, supporting 67W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging. Additional specifications encompass 5G support, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth v5.3, dual symmetrical speakers, NFC, Dolby Vision, Atmos support, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and a vapor cooling system.

Price and Availability:

As with it’s predecessor, this device remains exclusive to users in China, available solely for purchase within the country. There is currently no information available regarding a global release date.

The base variant, with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, is priced at CNY 8,999. The 16GB + 512GB variant carries a price tag of CNY 9,999, while the highest-tier 16GB + 1TB variant is priced at CNY 10,999.
