YouTube Tests ‘Video Summaries’ For Quick Overview of Content

YouTube is adding a new video summary feature this week – that’ll auto-generate summaries for English-language videos for now.

Later, the feature may support other languages and regions, considering the testing is successful. YouTube didn’t share screenshots of this feature but said it’s not a replacement for the current user-generated summaries and will appear alongside them with labels to differentiate.

YouTube Video Summaries

YouTube is on a roll. The video entertainment platform is releasing new features almost every week these days. The latest in this pursuit is “Video Summaries“, which offer a quick overview of what a video is about.

YouTube, on it’s support page, explained the new feature will be able to auto-generate video summaries for English-language videos for now and maybe support other languages later. There are no screenshots shared of this feature, so we don’t know what this would look like.

Well, the platform says the new feature is not meant to replace the written summaries submitted by the creators themselves. Still, these would appear on both watch and search pages, with a disclaimer label to help users differentiate it from the user-created video summaries.

YouTube says the feature is being tested with a few viewers and videos without mentioning the countries where they would appear. But since YouTube noted the feature is currently available on English-language videos, expect relevant regions of where this feature could appear. Lucky testers who see this feature are encouraged to share their feedback.
