Apple is Asking its Suppliers to Make Bezel-Less Displays for iPhones

As per a new supply chain report, Apple is asking it’s display makers – LG and Samsung, to craft displays with no bezels for the future iPhones!

This upgrade would give the necessary premium look to iPhones, which already cooks in high-end display features like AMOLED panel, adaptive brightness and higher screen refresh rate. Well, this upgrade may also create production problems for the OEMs since Apple is particular about the details.

Bezel-Less Displays for iPhones

iPhones are some of the few smartphone brands to see little to no change in physical design, despite being on the market for over a decade and a half. Yet, the Cupertino-based company draws success primarily from it’s iOS and niche features most of the time.

Well, we may soon see rapid changes in the physical design, as Apple is striving to make bezel-less displays for iPhones. According to The Elec, Apple has asked it’s display suppliers – LG and Samsung, to “develop OLED that removes all iPhone front bezels”.

Though both OEMs can do this, there are still issues. For example, LG is already facing production issues for thinning the bezels on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which may result in a supply shortage of these units.

And to keep continuing this and suffice Apple’s demands, both Samsung and LG need to improve different aspects of the iPhone display hardware, including the thin-film encapsulation and under-panel camera hardware.

And it would take time. And Apple is all up for it. The report also states that Apple is reluctant to try the curved display, which Samsung had for some of it’s flagships earlier. Thus, we should wait and see how these talks would turn out for future iPhones.
