WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging app owned by Meta, has recently introduced an exciting new feature that adds more fun and interest to chats. This new feature enables users to send video messages to individuals or groups, making conversations more engaging.

Similar to text messages and voice notes, video messages allow users to record and send videos as replies in chats. Currently, the video message duration is limited to 60 seconds, providing a concise yet expressive way to reply to messages.

WhatsApp officially announced the rollout of this video message feature in a blog post, confirming it’s availability to all users worldwide. If you haven’t received the feature yet, ensure that you have updated your app. If it is still not available, be patient as it will eventually be accessible to everyone. Like all WhatsApp chats, video messages will also be end-to-end encrypted making it secure.

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, shared a video on his Facebook page, demonstrating how the feature works. Essentially, it complements the existing voice notes feature, enhancing communication within the app.

When you want to reply to a chat with a video message, simply tap on the microphone icon next to the chat box. This will open your device’s camera, allowing you to record a video up to 60 seconds long. You can use either the front or back camera, as there is an option to switch between them. During video recording, you can swipe up the video button to lock it, enabling hands-free recording similar to the voice notes feature.

Once you have recorded the video message, tap the send button to share it. The receiver will see the video message in a large circular outline, and the video will start playing automatically, initially without any sound. To hear the message’s voice, the receiver needs to tap on the video message, and the message will play with sound in a large circular window.

To send a voice note, users can tap and hold the microphone icon next to the chat window. With this new feature, the microphone icon serves a dual purpose, allowing users to send either a voice note or a video message. This makes communication more versatile and enjoyable for WhatsApp users.
