Microsoft in OpenAI’s Board

For those wondering why Microsoft wasn’t given a board seat at OpenAI despite being a lead investor, the latter has finally appointed Microsoft as one of it’s board members this week! In a fresh announcement today, OpenAI noted Microsoft as a non-voting observer on it’s board, while refreshing and reappointing others.

This includes Sam Altman as the CEO, Mira Murti as CTO, Greg Brockman as the president, and a new board including Bret Taylor(former CEO of Salesforce), Larry Summers(former Clinton Treasury Secretary), and Adam D’Angelo(Quora’s co-founder and CEO.)

OpenAI co-founder and chief scientist Ilya Sutskever – also a member of the former board that fired Altman – said he deeply regrets participation in the board’s actions and supported Altman’s return. While it happened anyway, Sutskever was dumped in the process of forming OpenAI’s new board.

And now, Bret Taylor, one of the new board members, said they’re enhancing “the governance structure” by forming “an independent committee of the Board to oversee a review of the recent events,” ensuring the organisation’s stability.
