Pixel 8 Series Adds Face Unlock to More Apps, Much More Reliable

One of the many things Google refined in it’s latest Pixel 8 Series is the Face Unlock feature, which will now extend to all apps.

Previously, Face Unlock was only limited to certain apps, mainly banking and was not reliable. This forced users to access apps using fingerprint scanning, which is almost instant. Though refining Face Unlock on Pixel 8 Series is welcoming, it’s supposedly available only to Pixel 8 Series, not the previous handsets!

Face Unlocking on Pixel 8 Series

Google launched it’s latest flagship smartphone – the Pixel 8 Series, with a bang earlier this month. Sporting a powerful chip, premium display and unique cameras, both Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are one of the best Android handsets we have now.

As they continue to thrive, Google refined one of the buggy features – Face Unlock – on it’s latest smartphones. Until now, all the Pixel handsets supporting a Face Unlock are slow and iffy, forcing users to mostly utilize fingerprint or PIN unlocking modes.

Google didn’t care to address this issue in several monthly updates. Well, we now have a solution in the Pixel 8 Series, as the Face Unlock is refined to be more reliable and widespread.

Google, in it’s latest smartphone series, expanded Face Unlock support to all apps and it is fast in responding. Previously, this feature was only available to a few apps, mainly banking. While it’s appreciable, the refined Face Unlock is supposedly known only to the Pixel 8 Series, primarily due to it’s Tensor G3 and Titan M2 security chip, which together empower Face Unlock.

It’s not an addition coming along with any Android 14 update for previous Pixel devices, so don’t hope. Rendering the Face Unlock on all previous Pixel handsets unreliable and limited to a few apps.
